The name Esther means Star, for Esther comes from the Persian name, Satarah. She was known as Hadassah to her people. She was a woman of deep faith, and courage. It is Queen Esther, who was given a crown by King Xerxes, also known as Ahasuerus(hebrew) who saves the Jews from annihilation.
She redeems King Saul's mistake of not destroying the Amalekites as GOD commanded him to do. She is a relative of King Saul and from the tribe of Benjamin, descended from Kish.
Whereas, Queen Esther, being faithful and courageous, saves her people...it is a far different story for Queen Vashti who is the daughter of King Belshazzar of Babylon and related to King Nebuchadnazzer. Queen Vashti defies her King, her husband, and in doing so is replaced by Esther. Not much is said as to why Queen Vashti refused her husbands command, but it does say that King Xerxes was in "high spirits" from wine when he made the command of her. Perhaps the King was drunk or close to it.
